Open Music Europe (OpenMusE)

Open Music Europe (OpenMusE) was a Horizon Europe Research and Innovation Action (2023–2025) developing an open, scalable data-to-policy pipeline for European music ecosystems. Reprex initiated the project and was primarily responsible for its innovation activities, including the development of interoperable data infrastructure and pathways for dissemination and exploitation.

From the perspective of the present research agenda, OpenMusE provided the main experimental environment for developing a federated and decentralised prototype of the European Music Observatory. Rather than building a single central music database, we worked with public authorities, cultural institutions, rights organisations and other sectoral actors to test how independently governed data sources could be reconciled and reused while retaining provenance, institutional responsibility and local stewardship.

This work produced practical experience with national and cross-border data sharing, including the Slovak Comprehensive Music Database and the Finno-Ugric Data Sharing Space, and provides an important empirical foundation for our current research on data sharing spaces, semantic interoperability and bounded federation.
